The Zoo

We went to the Zoo yesterday!

These Tall Blonds were my Favorite! She was looking at Mr. N and Little M in this picture.

Go Cougars! This pretty guy was fixated on a guy right outside of the cage putting up Christmas lights. If it wasn't for the fence, it looked as though the Cougar was going to make him lunch!

Watching the Elephants.

It was SO much fun.

At the Elephant and Rhino Exhibit they had this scale (Pictured above) that your whole family/group could get on and you could see how much you weighed in comparison to a rhino or elephant. It's hard to see the lights, but we were just barely the weight of a newborn elephant.

Little M had such a great time. This is one of my favorite pictures of the two of them!

We thought Little M would like the Monkey's the best, since they are so active, but she actually liked the Rhinos. She didn't like the elephants as much as the rhinos either, so it wasn't a 'big grey animal thing.'

This Owl was one of my favorites as well! He just stood there tilting his head from one side to the other as he looked at Mr. N.

Cute, huh? This little cat weighs less than 2 lbs, but according to the sign he's quite ferocious!

The White Alligator

This is what the pamphlet said about the White Alligator.

There are only 10 white alligators known to exist worldwide. These rare white alligators were discovered in August of 1987 when three Cajun fishermen discovered a nest of 18 white baby alligators in a bayou southwest of New Orleans. Eventually, the white alligators were taken to the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. If left alone, white alligators would not survive in the wild as they would be highly visible to predators and they sunburn easily.

White alligators are not albino. These white alligators were born with a rare condition called leucism. Leucistic animals have no pigment cells in their skin, so they look pure white. And their eyes are most often a brilliant blue.

There are no records of other white alligators discovered throughout history. Legend has it that anyone gazing into the blue eyes of the rare white alligator will be blessed with good luck for the coming year, and prosperity will surely follow. Their discovery certainly was lucky for them--they would not exist today if not for those three Cajun fisherman.

At the end of the day she was beat!
