Washington Crossing

**By the way, this is my 400th post. I think I'm suppose to do something special...but I'm coming up blank. I guess you'll just have to read more about US!

Last week we had a rare sunny morning (yeah, it rained later in the afternoon...) so we headed over to the NJ/PA border to go to Washington Crossing Park. If you read the sign in the picture above, you'll read that this is the spot where Washington crossed to NJ in the revolutionary war, which was the turning point of the war. There really is so much history in NJ.




This is the site up to the sign above. The park was free to go to and so beautiful.

We walked about 1/2 a mile to get to the crossing point. It was great because during the week, when we went, there was no one there. The girls were able to just run and play. It's always nice to take it easy and just go at their pace. Outings are never as fun if you have an agenda.

I love this photo! M is such a beauty. She is also so polite and sweet. At Washington Crossing they had a museum with all kinds of artifacts. They also had a video explaining the history of the site. It was a really good video. The girls had a lot of fun going up and down the stairs. Fortunately there was just one other group there with us, and they didn't mind our little girls making a bit of noise.

Here are some of the things they had in the museum.

American, British, & Hessian Uniforms. Mr. N wasn't able to go with us. He's been working hard getting some drawings done. We're going to go back when he is able so he can see how beautiful it was. Mr. N's dad has a fascinating wealth of knowledge about history. He's really enstilled a love of history in Mr. N, so this kind of thing is right up his alley.




I loved this tree. It was just so big and perfect!




Along the path to the crossing point there were a bunch of different trees that had been planted by various groups. Here's one of them.

We walked across the footbridge to Pennsylvannia. The girls had a lot of fun looking at the water. Baby L loved running her had across the bridge railings. Her fingers were covered in spider webs by the end...uck! On the way over to PA Little M kept calling for the "baby ducks," but on the way back to NJ she was calling for the "Killer Whales." I tried telling her there were no killer whales in this water, but she just said, "No Mommy, Killer Whales!"




On the PA side of Washington Crossing they had this beautiful sculpture.




All in all it was a fantastic morning. The girls had a great time, and so did my mom and I. We really missed Mr. N, but are excited to go back so he can join us!
